Ice-T, Los Angeles Book Signing “Kings of Vice”

Rapper, actor and author Ice-T will be at the Grove in LA, signing copies of his new book “Kings of Vice.”

Born Tracy Marrow, in Newark, New Jersey, Ice-T was raised solely by his father after his mom died when he was in the third grade. Not long after, his father died when he was just 12 years old. He then went to live with an aunt in Los Angeles. Tough beginnings.

Attending Crenshaw High School, steeped in the culture of gangs, Marrow joined the Crips and began reading the novels of Iceberg Slim. He and fellow Crips wrote and performed what they called “Crip Rhymes.” This was well before the advent of rap music. By the age of seventeen, he had his first child and was well on his way to joining the United States Army, serving four years in the 25th Infantry. Post-Army, Marrow took the name Ice-T in homage to Iceberg Slim and started out as a DJ. He met producer William Strong of Saturn Records who produced his first single, “Cold Wind Madness” in 1982. And the rest is history. His film roles include Scotty Appleton in New Jack City, for which he won the MTV Movie Award for Best Breakthrough Performance, J-Bone in Johnny Mnemonic, Vincent Moon in Mean Guns, and C-Note in The Heist, among a slew of other titles. Check out his discography after the jump.

From the Publisher
Twenty years ago, Marcus “Crush” Casey was the leader of the Vicetown Kings, the most powerful crime syndicate in New York City. Then he was betrayed by his second-in-command and sent to prison.

Now he’s back on the streets and he has a lot more on his mind than just getting even.

He needs to take back everything he lost: Find the friend who betrayed him and killed his only son, keep the cops at bay, and resist the one woman he knows he can’t have. His time on the inside gave him a conscience and he also wants to help clean up the crime-infested neighborhoods that used to be his home.

Crush will take back the Vicetown Kings and guide them to protect the city and its citizens…or die trying.

Ice-T’s experience with crime and gangs in Los Angeles and his years on Law & Order: SVU make him the perfect person to tell this thrilling story of revenge and redemption. Kings of Vice marks a new entry into the type of urban fiction immortalized by writers like K’wan, Elmore Leonard, and Donald Goines.
