A singer, songwriter, actress and television host, Gifford is best know for her 15-years of co-hosting “Live with Regis and Kathie Lee” (1985–2000). From Bowie, Maryland, the daughter of a musician, Gifford got the performing bug early. During high school she sang with a folk group called “Pennsylvania Next Right.” She attended Oral Roberts University and had already identified herself as a born-again Christian by the age 12.
In 1970, Kathie Lee represented Maryland in America’s Junior Miss Pageant. She met sports commentator Frank Gifford in 1983 and the couple have been married since 1986. From the late 80s to early 90s she was also the face of Carnival Cruises. Almost as well-known as Kathie Lee herself, is her son Cody, as she would update “Regis and Kathie Lee” viewers with daily anecdotes after his birth.
Since ending her contract with “Regis and Kathie Lee,” Gifford has made a number of TV appearances including special correspondent on the syndicated entertainment magazine television show “The Insider,” along with her current position on NBC’s “Today Show.” She has been a celebrity ambassador for the non-profit organization Childhelp, and with her husband, has raised funds to build and maintain two shelters in New York City for babies born with HIV or a congenital crack cocaine addiction. She’s the author of several children’s books. Her latest, “The Legend of Messy M’Cheany,” hits bookshelves on May 24, 2011.
